INSTRUCTIONS FOR BABY CARRY BLANKET
1. STOCKING STITCH.
Knit a large square in stocking stitch, working on 85 stitches, using 6.5mm needles. To achieve the required length, measure against the top edge. Cast off.
2. MOSS STITCH.
At the top of the square, with same needles, pick up approx. 66 stitches (even number) and work in moss stitch (knit 1, purl 1 along each row) for approximately 22 rows. Cast off. Repeat this at the bottom of the square.
Repeat this on each side, adjusting number of stitches (even number) to fit.
3. CROCHET SQUARE. x 4
Crochet 5 chain and join ends to form ring.
1st round ? 5 ch (count as 1 tr and 2 ch), [3 tr into ring, 2 ch] 3 times, 2 tr into ring, sl st to 3rd of 5 ch.
2nd round ? Sl st into next ch, 5 ch(count as 1 tr and 2 ch), 3 tr into same space, *1 ch, miss 3 tr, [3tr, 2 ch, 3 tr] into next space; rep from * twice, 1 ch, miss 3 sts, 2 tr into same sp as 5 ch at beg of round, sl st to 3rd of 5 ch.
3rd round ? Sl st into next ch, 5 ch (count as 1 tr and 2 ch) 3 tr into same sp, *1 ch, miss 3 tr, 3 tr into next space,1 ch, miss 3 tr **, [3 tr, 2 ch, 3 tr] into next sp; rep from * twice and from * to ** again, 2 tr into same sp as 5 ch, sl st to 3rd of 5 ch.
4th round ? Sl st into next ch, 5 ch (count as 1 tr and 2 ch) 3 tr into same sp, *[1 ch, miss 3 tr, 3 tr into next sp] twice, 1 ch, miss 3 tr**, [3 tr, 2 ch, 3 tr]into next sp; rep from * twice and from * to ** again, 2 tr into same sp as 5 ch, sl st to 3rd of 5 ch.
Measure your square against the corner space of your knitted rug. Crochet another row if needed, working as before, but adding necessary stitches into middle space. Fasten off.
4. ASSEMBLE.
Using wool and bodkin, stitch 2 sides of each square into corner spaces.
5. CONTRAST CROCHET ROW.
Using 6.00mm hook, evenly pick up and treble crochet around outside edge of blanket, including edges of crochet squares. (3 trebles into each corner stitch). Fasten off.
6. BORDER.
Using knitting needles, pick up crochet stitches along one side and knit approx 12 rows garter stitch (plain only), increasing 1 st at either end of alternate rows. Next knit 3 rows stocking stitch in same colour, still increasing as before.
On subsequent sides, work as above, whilst also knitting into corresponding stitch from neighbouring border, to form neat corners.
Cast off.
Using contrasting colour, double crochet into cast off edge evenly, around outside, 2 stitches into each corner. Fasten off.
Crochet again around outside edge with base colour, in treble crochet, 2 stitches into each corner. Fasten off.
Using contrasting colour, attach wool to corner stitch, *5 ch, miss 2, 1 single crochet into 3rd tr. * to end. Fasten off.
Sew in and trim ends.
7. HOOD.
In corner of reverse of rug, pick up and knit, 3 (stocking) stitches, increase at either end of next row and alternate rows, picking up a stitch at each edge of rug as you go. Building a triangular hood, work approx. 25 rows.
Continue in the same way, now working in ribbing. Cast off. Work 2 rows contrast single crochet with smaller hook. Fasten off. Make pompom and attach to corner.
Press with warm iron.
